  • Struggling for months to get an appointment for a driver’s licence test?
  • Feel disempowered and have no idea who to appeal to?
  • Is no one listening?
  • NO HELP even when explaining your circumstances to why you need a licence so badly?
  • Is this affecting your life in a bad way?

If so, it’s time to help the South African Institute of Driving Instructors (SAIDI) help you.

At SAIDI we believe the time has come for us to stand together and petition the relevant authorities to bring about positive changes to the current system and empower all South Africans to get their driver’s licences legally. The economy is undeniably dependent on the transport system, which includes licensed vehicle drivers. At a recent transport conference held at the CSIR, Minister of Transport Jeff Radebe said government puts transport “at the centre of our economic growth”. Why then, in a country notorious for its sky-high road death statistics, should anything hinder the public from obtaining proper driving instruction and getting driver’s licences legally?

Driving instructors want to help their students get their licences.  That's part of what SAIDI’s members do. We also teach drivers to obey the law, drive defensively and maintain correct attitudes, thereby helping make our roads safer. But SAIDI’s members have had big problems providing an acceptable service to their clients since the beginning of 2003.

  • We can't get test appointments.
  • We don't like the booking system.
  • We don't like letting our pupils down.
  • We don't like the shortage of examiners.
  • We don't like the shortage of testing centres.
  • We don't like our businesses being ruined by the system.
  • We don't like the way we and the public are being treated.
  • We don't like the lack of communication when changes are introduced.

We are offering this petition to give everybody a forum to express their feelings and frustrations.

The extent of the problem is much more serious and widespread than the authorities realise. Your response will help prove just how widespread things are. Please click on the link above and also send this e-mail to everyone you know who is also struggling to get a legal driver’s licence in South Africa.

ANONYMOUS VOTES AREN'T COUNTED

THOUGH EVERY VOTE IS IMPORTANT TO US; when the petition is presented, all duplicate votes are removed.  Since there is no way to "uniquely-identify" an anonymous vote - these are discounted from the petition.

ADDING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HELPS EVEN MORE Please know that all email addresses will be kept in the strictest of confidence even after the petition is complete and the problem resolved. When adding an email address the vote is more "authentic", we won't use your email address even for us to contact you
