"Its comforting to think you can safely leave your car in a
parking lot and have it tended by one or more reliable car
guards.
Sadly this is not always the
case as an investigation by
702 reporters has revealed that car guards work as
informers for armed robbers hijackers and
smash-and-grabbers.
A car guard at a West Rand
shopping centre told 702 that when he puts on the trademark
yellow bib, people trust him.
The guard said he informed
smash-and-grabbers on belongings such as cell phones,
jewelry and laptops the motorist has.
He also keeps a watch for people
who have withdrawn money from the ATM machines, and passes
the information to the smash-and-grabbers he works with.
He also observes people busy
with their shopping and later robs them of their cell phones
and handbags.
He claims he decided to start
working with the syndicate as people tip badly for the 'hard
work' he does"
