  1. SAIDI invited school pupils who are directly affected by the lack of services for learner's and driver's licences to vote on our petition.

  2. No sooner had SAIDI sent a letter out to various high schools regarding the petition against the lack of learner's and driver's licences than we received a very worrying answer from a school. This is a VERY serious concern!

View the letter received from the "CVO Skool"

  3. We immediately contacted the authorities to alert them to this new ruling that a matriculant will NOT receive a matric certificate unless he / she is in possession of a learner's licence, and can prove it by attaching a certified copy to the other documentation required.

  4. We also immediately alerted the Gauteng Shared Call Centre (GSSC) of the matter.

Letter to the GSSC should display here - please refresh/reload (F5) this page

  5. We have also sent it to a member of the DA Party to take up with the MEC. This is a very serious matter which will affect ALL matriculants next year and needs to be addressed urgently. Not only are students COMPELLED to get a learner's licence –

  6. What about people who medically will never be capable of driving, What about people who don't want to drive?
  7. What about the present critical lack of appointments and testing centres which we are told could have between 37 000 and 100 000 backlog in appointments?
  8. How does the country plan to accommodate all the additional applicants?
  9. SAIDI is already in a position to assist with training of driving instructors should MEC Ignatius Jacobs suggestion to use instructors to assist with testing drivers be accepted and passed.

  10. See article from Beeld 23 August 2007
